A smooth and soft cigar for those who are curious about full body but haven’t developed the palette for it yet.
Construction
When I held the cigar, I didn’t expect much more than I had previously experienced with Rebellion cigars, a good construction that I could trust. I got what I expected, a solid cigar without any unevenness, soft parts or large veins that would disturb the moment with the cigar. The cigar had a slightly oily feel to it.
Scent and cold draw
Rebellion’s Ace of Spades had a wrapper that smelled of hay while the filler had a lighter scent reminiscent of farmyard. The cold draft was quite nice and presented flavors of chocolate and hay.
1/3 Lets light up the Rebellion Ace of spades robusto
The first thing that met my palette was an incredibly nice texture that was creamy and buttery at the same time. The first flavor I felt was a sweetness that reminded me of old-fashioned toffee caramel, not too sweet or prominent. In addition to the taste of caramel, there were flavors of hay, a nuttiness that reminded me of roasted nuts with a lighter shade of cashew (incredibly difficult nuttiness to explain in text), licorice and leather. In the background there was a lighter general fruitiness and acidity that reminded me of citrus. The retrohalation was smooth and gave lighter shades of white pepper.
2/3 A smooth complexity emerged
Rebellion’s Ace of Spades showed a soft complexity. The texture went from being buttery and creamy to just being creamy and rich. The previous caramel-like sweetness was replaced by a honey-like sweetness followed by flavors of hay, cashew nuts, licorice and leather. In the background there were flavors of fruitiness with a lighter taste of peach peel and a taste reminiscent of cream with vanilla sugar. The retrohalation was incredibly smooth and gave nuances of white pepper.
3/3 I thought it was the end of the cigar
As I stepped into what I thought was the last part of the cigar, the texture became creamier and thicker than before. The flavors I felt were licorice and hay which were the most dominant followed by roasted salted nuts and leather. In the background were flavors of sweet citrus, classic tobacco, honey-like sweetness, breadiness, and as before cream with vanilla sugar. The re-inhale was smooth and gave shades of white pepper.
4/3 The nub ended the cigar with new flavors
When I got to the tip and the last few puffs that were left, I got a bit of a shock. All the flavors from before almost disappeared and only shades of chocolate, grass and hay remained. An incredibly lovely finish to the cigar.
After taste
Hay and chocolate
Body
Medium bordering on full
Smoke time
60 minutes
Conclusion
Rebellion Ace of spades is a cigar with complexity between the flavors. You never get bored. What is interesting is how it ends and the nub gives a final push to the complexity. Although the body is on the verge of full, it suits cigar smokers who like medium body but are curious about full thanks to its soft character. If I compare price vs taste vs quality, I think it is a bit low in price.
