Construction
I was a little concerned before i lit up the Matilde Serena maduro, when i inspected the cigar i felt a hard lump in the middle of the cigar i though would interfere with the smoking experience, luckily my concerns where just concerns and the cigar smoked with out any flaws. The wrapper of Matilde Serena maduro had a matte feeling to it.
Band impression
The bad of Matilde Serena maduro didn’t give me any special feeling. The only feeling I got was as it was created to be a ordinary everyday cigar.
Size of Matilde Serena maduro
The vitola I reviwed was a robust 50×5 1/4 (Ring gauge approximately 20mm, length 133mm)
Blend
The Matilde Serena maduro had a San Andres Mexican wrapper, Dominican binder and fillers from Dominican and Nicaragua.
Scent and cold draw
The wrapper had a chocolate scent while the filler had lighter scents of farmyard and hay. The cold draw presented me with flavors of milkiness and malt.
Let’s light up Matilde Serena maduro
To be honest I haf expected more complexity from the cigar then i got. Even though there was a lot of flavors coming out from Matilde Serena maduro I thought it would change in nuances between thirds, the flavors I felt upon lighting where the same until the end.
The texture was smooth and slightly creamy and the dominant flavors I felt were Dark chocolate in a combination with nougat chocolate, baking spice, hay, roasted nuts with a hint of cashew nuts, minerals, general sweetness and anise. In the background there were lighter shades of espresso, florality, cedar wood and earthiness. The retrohale was smooth and gave nuances of general wood.
After taste
The flavors from the aftertaste were walenut with a lighter bitterness.
Smoke time
It took about 50 minutes to smoke the Matilde Serena maduro robusto
Draw
The draw of the cigar was neither to Thight or to loose. The draw of Matilde Serena maduro was exactly as you expect from a quality cigar.
Burn quality
The glow line never had to be corrected. The cigar glowed straight and evenly.
Body of Matilde Serena maduro robusto
The Matilde Serena maduro robusto presented a medium bordering on full body.
Price of the cigar
The average price for the Matilde Serena maduro robusto is 8-10 USD
Conclusion
The Matilde Serena maduro robusto is a good everyday cigar. The cigar isn’t particularly complex with makes it suitable for moments when you don’t want to put all your focus on the cigar. The medium bordering on full body makes it suitable for more experienced cigar smoker who like full bodied cigars. When i compare price vs taste vs quality I think its where it should be.
