A perfect example of how the rolling of the cigar affects the glow line. The cigar you see is one of my go to cigars. I wasn’t going to write anything about the cigar was my thoughts before I lit it, but it was a perfect example of how packing affects taste and the glow line.
Unfortunately, I didn’t take a picture before I lit the cigar but you can probably see the defect in the picture on the cigar. The cigar was more packed on one side than on the other which allowed the tobacco leaves to get more air on the lighter packed side of the cigar. what also happened, the different layers of tobacco are usually different easily flammable, which also meant that the glow line was not straight. Similar to a grill, you add air if you want more and warmer glows. It is worth inspecting the cigar before buying it.
If it burns obliquely, you get more taste from one type of tobacco and less from the other. Imagine cooking and seasoning the food, then some one will add extra of a spice without you noticing. The recipe you followed will not be at all as it was meant to be. The balance the cigar was supposed to have disappeared and it may be that the cigar tastes in a completely different way than it was supposed to taste.
What can you do if you buy a cigar that is unevenly packed online? There are a few things you can do. Either you return the cigar to the store before lighting it if the store allows it or you have to be prepared to parry the glow line with a lighter. If you buy the cigar in a store, however, I think you should keep it and smoke it.
It is rare that it was unevenly rolled as it was now that one could see it by looking at it. It’s rare that I find a cigar that’s unevenly packed at all. Usually you get to feel a little on the cigar before and try to see if it is even all around when you buy in a cigar store. You usually have time to inspect the cigar before buying it.
Why did I light the cigar instead of taking another one? Simple I’ve smoked that cigar before without being disappointed. It was worth parrying the glow line with lighters. If you buy a cigar online, it will be more difficult to inspect the cigar before buying the cigar. If you are going to buy slightly more expensive cigars, I think you visit a store. It is always nice to visit a cigar shop and you can get recommendations on cigars from someone who is a professional.
