Cigars belong on the golf course. Whether it’s a solo nine, a full eighteen with friends, or just a casual round to clear your head — a cigar adds rhythm, focus, and presence to the day.
Choosing the right cigar for your next round of golf will get you a golden edge to your day. Here are our best advice.
Bring More Than One cigar
You’re going to want at least two. One for the front nine. One for the back. Maybe a third for good measure — in case the pace slows down, the round stretches long, or someone in your group realizes they forgot theirs.
Better to have extra than to come up short. A cigar shared mid-round is never wasted.

Wich size should you choose?
The question is incredibly personal. Some people want to smoke several cigars during a round of golf and others settle for a slightly larger one that stretches over several holes. To make your choice easier, i thought we’d go through a few different things worth thinking about when choosing cigar size for your next round of golf.
Advantages of smaller cigars such as half corona, corona, short robusto, robusto are that you can vary more easily. If the desire is for a mild cigar with sweet fruity nuances at the beginning and a slightly stronger full-bodied cigar with more chocolaty flavors later in the day, the possibilities are greater for complexity through the choice of a smaller cigar. The advantage of a larger cigar is that if you are sure of your choice and that it is the flavor profile and body you are satisfied with all day, you will get a longer smoking time with your favorite cigar. The question is do you want variety between the cigars or not. Do you like to puff for a long time or do you prefer shorter moments.
What kind of body should you choose
I would like to say take the cigar with the body you prefer, it is in itself a pretty obvious one you might think, but it is worth choosing the body with thought. Some prefer to let the clock wake you up, stand in the morning dew and let the golf become a morning meditation. If your palette can handle a full-bodied cigar right in the morning go for it, but for many a full-bodied cigar can be overwhelming.
A good choice in the morning might be to have a mild/medium cigar and a full-bodied one later in the day to avoid overwhelming the taste buds.
Flavor profile of the cigar
I want to say one thing, everyone has different opinions but I want to oppose this one. I have read some pages and I can agree with many pieces of advice except for this one I have read. Many have written that a good advice is to smoke a little more earthy cigars with woody, nutty and hay flavors because they suit the moment best. My advice is to ignore that advice. If you prefer fruity sweet cigars smoke them, if you like chocolate and espresso smoke them and if you like wood, nutty and hay take a cigar with those flavors. There is no right or wrong, your taste buds decide what suits you.
Bring cigars you have smoked before
When you are going to smoke a cigar on the golf course, you don’t want it to be the star of the moment, it should enhance the moment. If you take cigars that are new to you, there is a chance that the focus will end up on the cigar and less on the golf because your taste buds will work too hard to find flavors. However, if you take cigars that your taste buds are used to, it will be easier to find the flavors and you can focus more on everything around you while enjoying the flavors it brings. One of the reasons why your taste buds will work too hard is that even though you enjoy the cigar, thanks to our genetics, they want to determine whether what you put in your mouth is dangerous or not. Accessories
Travel humidor or cigar case
Storing your cigars in a cigar case or a travel humidor with a slightly harder shell is a good idea. If you drop them from the golf cart or when carrying your bag, you reduce the risk of them breaking.
The lighter the most important assecoar
Bringing your favorite lighter is a good idea, but don’t forget to fill it with gas. Also bring an extra one in case your favorite one doesn’t work for some reason. There are few things as frustrating as cutting your cigar and then not being able to light it.
Cigar cutter is important but you can do without it in case you forget it.
Of course, the cigar cutter is important to have with you. But in the unlikely event that you forget it in all your eagerness to get away, you can do it with your nails.
Ashtray
Now many paragraph riders will probably say the guy is stupid, don’t care about cigar ethics when you putt down the cigar?
Putting your cigar down to extinguish is a bit of cigar smoking etiquette. If you ask me, ignore that etiquette when you’re on the go. Why? If you don’t have a special ashtray that doesn’t make it fall when you put it out, go for it, otherwise take an empty glass jar or water bottle to put out your cigar. Leaving the cigar and ashes at the far end of the lane is not only unsafe, it also creates an irritation for the players who come after you. If you put it in a glass jar or bottle, you don’t have to worry about it creating a small fire if it’s dry and it falls off and irritation from players behind you if it’s at the far end of the lane. Its better to be safe then sorry. I don’t think anyone will look down on you if you do it. I’ve put out my cigars many times that way when I’m on the go and no one has said anything.
