One of the best cigars I’ve had the pleasure of smoking.
Construction
As you would expect from a Davidoff cigar, it was flawless in every way. It was firmly and evenly rolled, the seams were almost glued. It had a slight silky oiliness to it.
Wrapper: Ecuador – Binder: Dominican – Filler: Dominican
Taste
Smell and cold draw
The aroma and cold draw was nothing special compared to many other cigars, what was incredibly interesting were the flavors once the cigar was lit. The Davidoff Grand Cru had a wrapper and filler that smelled of hay and fruitiness, while the cold draw was smooth and had hints of hay.
1/3 Lets see Grand Cru Robusto what the cigar has to offer
After I slowly had the pleasure of finally roasting the cigar, I felt how it all started with a buttery texture with a faint undertone of creaminess. The flavors that danced to the taste buds were sweet cedar wood, a nuttiness reminiscent of pistachio nuts, a fruitiness reminiscent of dark berries with a hint of dark cherry. In the background there was a slight sweetness reminiscent of vanilla. The retrohale was smooth and tasted of cayenne pepper.
2/3 The Davidoff Grand Cru shows some complexity
As I stepped into the second third of the cigar it showed a nice complexity. The texture changed a bit and was now more creamy with an undertone of butteriness. The flavors the cigar offered were sweet licorice, hay, cedar, a fruitiness generally reminiscent of dark berries, a general nuttiness, fresh leather and raisins. The retrohale was still smooth and reminiscent of cayenne pepper.
3/3 A good finish to the Davidoff Grand Cru cigar
The cigar once showed that it had a slight complexity. The texture was creamy and the butteriness from before was almost completely gone. The flavors last third were a general woodiness and prominent cedar wood, dark berries, raisins, espresso, leather, general nuttiness, a mixture of dried spices. The retrohale was still smooth but now gave nuances of cayenne pepper and hay.
After taste
Walenuts
Body
Medium
Smoke time
65 minutes
Conclusion
A good cigar that suits both new aficionados and more experienced cigar enthusiasts. The body was medium and fits most of them. The flavors were smooth and had an incredibly good balance. If we compare price, quality and taste, I feel that it is almost where it should be, maybe a little on the high side but not much. I will smoke the cigar several times, it was a real pleasure.
