Construction
Having previously reviewed Escobar cigars Connecticut robusto I was eager to review their maduro to see if the quality was up to the same level and it was. Escobar cigars maduro toro was firm and evenly rolled with no veins, soft or hard parts. The cigar had a thicker oily feel to it that wrapped around it like a blanket.
Band impression
I don’t know why the feeling was so different from Escobar’s Connecticut, even though it was the same logo but in a different color I got the feeling of a summer grill. Whether it was the combination of the dark maduro wrapper and the fact that it was a toro I will leave unsaid. But the feeling I got from Escobar’s Maduro toro was a summer grill and sitting on the balcony to enjoy the sunset in the warmth.
Size of Escobar maduro toro
The vitola we choose to review was a toro 6×52 ( approximate 152mm x 20,5mm)
Blend
The cigar has a San Andrés wrapper with a binder and filler from Nicaragua.
Scent and Cold draw
The wrapper smelled of chocolate and hay, while the filler had a lighter scent of hay. The cold draw of Escobar cigars maduro offered weaker malty nuances.
1/3 Lets light up the Escobar Maduro Toro
After the cigar was roasted, I was offered a rich and creamy texture followed by dominant flavors of dark woodiness, spiciness reminiscent of black pepper, ground coffee beans, leather and a nuttiness reminiscent of cashew nuts. In the background there were nuances of raisins, dried fruits and herbs reminiscent of tea. The flavors in the background balanced out the slightly darker dominant flavors in an incredibly good way. The retrohalation of Escobar’s maduro toro tickled my nose and I felt woody and peppery nuances.
2/3 The cigar showed a lighter complexity.
As I stepped into the second third of Escobar’s maduro, the texture changed a bit, it wasn’t as rich as before but still quite creamy. The dried herbs that were previously in the background emerged and were among the dominant flavors, however, they were general herbs and not in the nuance of tea, there were also nuances of hay, leather, general pepperiness with a little milder than before, woodiness, espresso, roasted nuts and a creamy chocolate flavor. In the background I could feel lighter flavors of dried fruits, earthiness and a saltiness reminiscent of sea salt.. The retrohalation became a little smoother but still tickled my nose slightly, the nuances I felt were general woodiness.
3/3 Lets se how the Escobar Maduro Toro ends
When I got into the last third of Escobar’s cigars Maduro toro, the moment with the cigar was rounded off in a nice way. The texture became strangely a little lighter but was still creamy and the flavors I was presented with were Dark chocolate, wood that reminded me of oak, pepperiness that reminded me of white pepper, espresso, dark roasted coffee beans, roasted nuts and breadiness. The dominant flavors were balanced with nuances of fruitiness in the grape direction, raisins, classic tobacco, vanilla pod and saltiness. The retrohalation still tickled my nose slightly and gave nuances of woodiness.
After taste
Dark wood
Draw
The draw of the Escobar Maduro toro was neither too loose nor too tight, it was that sweet spot that you want in a draw.
Burn quality
The glow line of the cigar was, like the Connecticut cigar, almost as straight as a wall.
Body
The escobar maduro toro has a full body bordering on medium.
Price of Escobar cigars Maduro toro
The price of a Price of Escobar cigars Maduro toro is between about 13-15 dollars
Conclusion
Escobar cigars Maduro toro is a full-bodied cigar with balanced flavors. The dominant flavors are a little more earthy and are balanced out by slightly sweet fruity undertones. The cigar suits the slightly more experienced aficionados who are used to full-bodied cigars. If I compare price vs taste vs quality, I think Escobar’s Maduro toro cigars are a little low in price and you get a little more than what you pay for.
