There is a special feeling about holding a 6 7/8 x 54 box-pressed limited edition cigar like the Escobar Ultra black. A powerful feeling that deserves your attention.
Construction
The Escobar Ultra black cigar was firmly rolled and box-pressed with even corners. There were no major veins that would indicate the cigar to burn unevenly or feel “plugged”. The Ultra black had a lighter oily feeling to it that wrapped around it like a thin blanket.
Band impression

The band itself at Escobar Ultra black felt like a statement about something grand. If you look closely at the band at Ultra black you see an image of a big city and its reflection in the water below. The feeling I got was that it was made to celebrate a successful business meeting, the celebration of something grand in life. Imagine sitting by the water, looking over the fast pace of the big city and lighting a cigar while everything else rushes by. That’s the feeling that was brought out in me.
Size of Escobar Ultra black
The Escobar Ultra black had a length of 6 7/8 inches with a ring gauge of 54. (Approximately 174,5mm x 41,5mm)
Blend
Escobar Ultra black had a Mexican San Andres wrapper with a Nicaraguan binder and fillers. Tobaccos used for this particular blend have been aged for 5 years.
Scent and cold draw
The wrapper had a scent of hay, chocolate and nuts while the filler had a faint scent of hay and farm land. The cold draw of the Escobar Ultra black cigar gave off malty and fruity flavors. The fruity flavor felt a bit like a teaser and I started to yearn more to light the cigar.
1/3 Lets light upp The Escobar Ultra black
The first thing I felt was a creamy and buttery texture. The dominant flavors I felt were nuttiness, cacao, creamy espresso, cedar and hay. In the background were weaker nuances of fruitiness, honey-like sweetness, saltiness, minerals and anise. The retrohalation was smooth and the nuances I felt were hay and cedar wood.
2/3 The cigar showes complexity
As I approached the second third of the Escobar Ultra black, it showed a completely different side. The cigar had started off calm and collected, but now it showed a completely new side. The texture became creamier and more incredible. The flavors it presented were a bit like a buffet, at the forefront there were hay, woodiness, dark roasted coffee beans, chocolate and roasted nuts. In the background there were lighter nuances of raisins, fruitiness, nougat, dried herbs, vanilla bean and a cinnamon-like spiciness. The retrohalation was still as smooth and the nuances I felt were general woodiness.
3/3 Let’s see how the cigar finishes.
A little interesting, when I got into the last third it felt like the texture of Ultra black changed again. A little unusual, the last third felt like the first third in texture, creamy with a buttery feel. The dominant flavors were hay, grass, leather, chocolate, anise, ground coffee beans and cinnamon. In the background there were flavors of earth, fruitiness, citrus peel, saltiness, hickory and a sweetness that reminded me of vanilla sugar. The retrohalation was smooth and the nuances I felt were general woodiness.

Draw
The draw of the Escobar Ultra black was Neither too tight nor loose, it was just as you expect from a premium cigar.
Burn quality
The glow line was even from start to finish and didn’t have to be corrected.
Body of Escobar Ultra Black
Escobar Ultra black had a medium to full body. The body starts out mild in the first third and develops during the smoke.
Price of the cigar
The price is approximately 250 USD for a box of 10 pieces.
Conclusion
Escobar Ultra black is a complex cigar that develops constantly throughout the smoking process. The flavors are well balanced and the body is medium to full. The Ultra black cigar is suitable for those who are not used to but are curious about full-bodied cigars and for the slightly more experienced aficionado. If I compare price vs taste vs quality, I think it is where it should be, possibly a little low in price.
