Davidoff Nicaragua robusto cigar review

Construction

The cigar was firm without any veins that I could feel. The wrapper had a slightly oily feeling to it.

Taste

Smell and cold draw

The cigar had a delightful aroma of hay and fruitiness, while the cold draw offered flavors of fruitiness and hay.

1/3 of Davidoff Nicaragua Toro

The cigar quickly revealed itself to be a complex and flavorful journey. It began with a creamy yet dry texture. The flavors it offered included a peach-like fruitiness, hay, sweet licorice, nuttiness, saltiness, general spiciness, and a caramel-like sweetness. In the background, there was a subtle mix of espresso and leather with a hint of acidity. Retrohaling tickled the nose with hints of cayenne pepper.

2/3 The cigar combined in a amazing way

Entering the second third, the flavors mellowed out a bit. The texture became more pleasant, creamy with a hint of butteriness. The fruitiness shifted to a more general fruity note, accompanied by a blend of oak and cedar, breadiness, nuttiness, and dried spices. In the background i could find hints of vanilla, leather, floral notes, and a caramel-like sweetness. The retrohale was smooth and revealed nuances of hickory.

3/3 The cigar finished in a wonderful way

In the final third of the Davidoff Nicaragua cigar, the texture changed, becoming creamier with a more pronounced butteriness. The flavors delivered included nuttiness and saltiness, leather, a blend of fruitiness and floral notes, breadiness, and dried spices. In the background, there were hints of tartness reminiscent of lemon, earthiness, vanilla bean, and a caramel-like sweetness. The retrohale was smooth, offering nuances of white pepper.

Conclusion

The cigar has a full body, making it well-suited for the more experienced aficionado. It offers a certain complexity, and if you pay close attention, you’ll notice not just the flavors but also the texture changes. When comparing price, taste, and quality, it feels slightly overpriced. For a bit more, you can get a Davidoff from the Late Hour series, where the tobacco is aged in whisky barrels, giving the cigar a smoother flavor profile.
