Construction
The minimal band at the foot around the cigar gave me the feeling of here and now. Nothing but the cigar counts for the moment. When the band was gone, there was just you and the cigar. The cigar was firm and even, the wrapper had a slightly rough and matte feel without any oiliness.
Wrapper: Costa rica – Binder: Nicaragua – Filler: Honduras and Nicaragua
Taste
Smell and cold draw
The scent I smelled on the wrapper reminded me of farm and beech forest while the filler smelled of farm and hay. The cold draft brought nuances of general sweetness and hay.
1/3 lets light up the cigar and see what it has to offer
I stepped into the first third of the cigar and felt a faint creamy texture. The flavors the cigar gave were general pepperiness, saltiness, leather, cedar, ground dark roasted coffee beans, hay and cacao. In the background was a flavor that reminded me of pine needles and a syrup-like sweetness mixed with raisins. The retrohalation really tickled and produced flavors that are most easily described as a mixture of white pepper, black pepper and rose pepper. The flavors in the first third fluctuated a lot between each other, like a competition which would be the dominant flavor.
2/3 Lets enjoy the second third of Rocky patel the Edge maduro toro cigar
As I got into the second third of the cigar, the texture grew a bit and became a bit creamier. The flavors that came to the palette were a mix of fresh spices, cedar, roasted almonds, a sweetness reminiscent of burnt sugar, ground dark roasted coffee beans. In the background there were flavors of spruce needles and spruce trees. The retrohale became a bit smoother and gave nuances of white pepper and cedar.
3/3
The flavors I felt were dark chocolate, burnt almonds, espresso with a light brown sugar sweetness, general woodiness and fresh, freshly picked spices. In the background there were shades of dark berries and spruce. The retrohale was smooth and gave nuances of general woodiness and white pepper.
After taste
Walnuts and dark rosted Coffee beans
Body
The cigar was full bodied
Smoke time
80 minutes
Conclusion
The Rocky Patel the Edge maduro toro cigar is a powerful, full-bodied cigar that suits the slightly more experienced aficionados. The flavors are balanced. If I compare price vs taste vs quality, I think it is where it should be.
