Undercrown is certainly not an undercrown as the name says. It should have its own crown and wear the rank with pride.
Conctruction
The band around the Drew estate under the undercrown cigar matched the name. It was reminiscent of a royal seal. The band made me think of mighty royal castles and the movie The Three Musketeers. Imagine yourself standing in front of a castle, the royal army standing there celebrating with the people, up comes the cigar case and there lies a cigar with the royal seal. A powerful feeling. When I swept my fingers over the cigar, you could feel how well it was rolled, the construction was firm and nice with no soft parts. The oily feeling that you are looking for was there and there was no doubt that the cigar was of high quality.
Wrapper: San Andrés Maduro (Mexico) – binder: Connecticut (USA) – Filler: Brazil and Nicaragua
Taste
The scent of the binder swirled slowly to the nose and gave nuances of hay and fruitiness, the filler smelled of hay, the cold draft gave nuances of fruitiness and hay. The aroma and cold draft raised my expectations of how the cigar would taste when lit.
In most cases, a cigar of this size can be divided into three-thirds, but not this one. It didn’t matter, the balance and flavors were so well balanced that it didn’t matter that the final third was missing.
1/2 The enjoyment began
The creamy texture offered by Drew Estate Undercrown Maduro Robuston brought with it flavors of dark chocolate, not the classic overly bitter dark chocolate, the one with a little more sweetness. There was a sweet fruitiness reminiscent of dark berries, among all the flavors there were also nuances of cedar wood, espresso and a light citrus flavor in the background that went towards lemon. The rethrohalation tickled my nose quite well and reminded me of a combination of black and white pepper.

2/2 The feast of flavours continues
The feast of flavours continued and was well balanced. The texture that used to be creamy shifted a bit and was now a combination of creamy and oily. Flavors that emerged in the cigar were dark chocolate, the dark chocolate became a little more classic and the sweetness receded a bit even though it was there as a complement. The espresso from earlier became more prominent and reminded me of the taste of espresso you get at a slightly finer coffee shop. That is, it was reminiscent of creamy luxurious espresso made by a barista. The taste of cedar from before was still there but withdrew a bit and a light taste of oak came in. The fruitiness, reminiscent of dark berries, was now more in the background than before. The citrus flavor was now reminiscent of general citrus and gave a pleasant acidity to the cigar. Towards the end of the cigar, the oak flavor changed, giving flavors of dark oak instead of the classic oak flavor. Imagine freshly sawn oak and the smell of an oak tree that has been lying around for a while. It’s a bit richer and darker in flavor shade.
After taste
The aftertaste from the cigar was walnuts while the texture was dry. The aftertaste lingered for a while.
Body
The body of the cigar was between medium and full body.
Smoke time
Smoking Drew estate undercrown maduro robusto took about 50 minutes.
Conclusion
The impression of the construction was powerful. The flavors were prominent and easy to find. It wasn’t too complex which makes it great for the cigar smoker who has little but not too much experience and wants to try out a full body cigar considering it’s in between medium and full body. Something to drink between puffs like water can be good. If you compare price vs quality, I think you get a lot for your money.
Would I smoke the cigar again? It’s not the first Drew estate undercrown cigar and not the last of them that I smoke. A good cigar that is suitable for many occasions.
