Ashton Aged Maduro No10 Robusto cigar

An Ashton cigar will always be an Ashton, perfection in taste. The cigar is one of my big favorites that I always want in my humidor.

Conctruction

The white band that wrapped around the cigar was simple but gave the dark wrapper a good contrast, which I thought gave a good balance to the look.
The first thing that came to my mind when I inspected the cigar was a vein running across the wrapper. It gave a little worry that it would burn unevenly. The filler was evenly distributed in the cigar and the roll was firm and nice. The cap had some unevenness but nothing that would interfere with the cut of the cigar and interfere with the feel when I smoked the Ashton Aged Maduro No10 cigar. A little early, I want to tell you that the worry I had about the cigar burning unevenly was unnecessary. The wrapper was slightly oily, the oiliness you only feel in a premium cigar.

Taste

Now it was time for the moment I was waiting for, to cut the cigar and enjoy it.

As usual, I took a few puffs on the cigar before lighting it. The flavor that emerged in the cold draft was dark chocolate. Getting to enjoy a cigar before lighting it is part of the experience and I enjoyed every second of it.

1/3

The Ashton Aged Maduro No10 Robusto cigar started the journey with the whole with a light creamy texture and left a wonderful oily mouthfeel. The oily texture that remained meant that the smoke did not feel dry as with many other cigars. I usually write about the retrohale a little later but wow, I didn’t feel any pepperiness and it gave aroma flavors of fruitiness. The flavors that came through in the first third were sweet florals, milk chocolate with a light note of dark chocolate/cocoa, a light sweetness that reminded me of vanilla sugar, oak comes in now and then, the oiliness between the flare and the milk chocolate made me think of a chocolate cake. It’s probably one of the best starts to a cigar I’ve experienced. The balance between the sweetness, the nuances from the cocoa and the fruitiness on the retrohale was absolutely incredible.

2/3

When I stepped into the second third of the Ashton Aged Maduro No10 Robusto cigar, it showed that it was a little complex but at the same time not too much. The flavors follow the same style as before but in slightly different shades. The smoke became thicker and creamier and the oily feeling felt before now became buttery. I think the buttery feeling came because the smoke became thicker and creamier, that the combination brought out the feeling of butteriness. An incredibly good change for an already good cigar.A Fruitiness emerged and the milk chocolate nuances from earlier now resembled cocoa with a slight bitterness. The bitterness balanced out the sweetness of the cigar nicely and was welcome. When I had smoked for a while on the second third of the cigar, flavors reminiscent of vanilla sugar. The taste of oak became darker than before and made me think of a campfire. Between the flares was a flavor reminiscent of walnuts.

3/3

The Ashton Aged Maduro No10 Robusto cigar had already offered an incredible smoke moment with lots of balanced flavors and the last third finished the cigar in an incredibly good way. The smoke became thicker and creamier. Dark floral flavors emerged and the fruitiness that was there before was now in the background. There were shades of dark chocolate almost reminiscent of cocoa. The oak that was there before felt a little sweeter and there were light shades of espresso. Between the puffs was a walnut flavor that left a dry feeling in the mouth.
Retrohalation was interesting, there were shades of black pepper and at the same time light shades of vanilla sugar. Not often that combination is found in retrohalation.

Aftertaste

When I put down the Ashton Aged Maduro No10 Robusto cigar, there were aftertastes of walnut and oak fire. The texture was dry.

Smoke time

I tend to smoke cigars slowly and many Robusto cigars cannot be smoked this long without them going out. The Ashton Aged Maduro No10 Robusto cigar took about 75 minutes to smoke without relighting.

An incredibly well balanced cigar with a lot of flavor I will smoke again.
