Cigar of the Year 2025 – El Septimo Rebelde blue

2025 was incredible year with lots of exciting cigars. It has been exciting journey with both bad, good and exceptional cigars throughout the year. But one cigar stood above all the rest – El Septimo Rebelde Blue at 98 points earned title of Cigar of the Year 2025. The El Septimo Rebelde Blue isn’t just another great cigar – it’s cigar that made me stop and realize I was experiencing something truly special.

Why El Septimo Rebelde Blue is Cigar of the Year

Choosing cigar of the year is never easy decision. There were so many worthy contenders in 2025 – cigars that scored 95, 96, even 97 points. But the Rebelde Blue at 98 points didn’t just beat them by numbers. It changed how I think about what cigars can achieve honestly.

This cigar has it all in one package. An incredibly smooth and complex cigar that delivers everything from chocolatey nuances, espresso, leather, fruitiness, citrus and floral flavors to name just few. But what really sets it apart is that clean feel to the cigar that I have rarely if ever felt in another brand. It’s hard to explain in words, but you know it immediately when you experience it.

The Details That Matter

Construction – Artistry You Can See

If you search for meaning of Rebelde online, you will get translation from Spanish and Portuguese to rebellious. The description says it is rebellious person who is difficult to control and opposes authority. Fitting name honestly.

There was something unique about this cigar that I had never seen before. The classic pig’s tail is seen from time to time on cigars – rounded top with decoration of small pig’s tail. Putting it on the foot is first time I’ve seen it though. It was there like an embellishment that showed real skill of an artist. A wonderful detail worth remembering and talking about.

The cigar was firmly rolled without any soft spots or construction issues that would affect the smoke.

Scent and Cold Draw – The Preview

The scent I felt on the cigar was chocolate and fruitiness while cold draw presented lighter flavors of maltiness and florality. Even before lighting it, you could tell this was going to be special experience.

The Smoking Experience

First Third – The Clean Introduction

It all started with classic “clean” feel that I would say is hallmark of El Septimo cigars. The texture of Rebelde blue was creamy and not overwhelming at all. The flavors it presented were almost difficult to explain in text honestly.

The flavors I felt in cigar were combination of floral and fruity with lighter shade of citrus – you can almost mimic it with luxurious perfume which is unique comparison. Cacao, soft taste of honey (not robust honey taste that takes up too much space), cedar wood, fresh herbs and leather. In background there were flavors of pepper and hay. The retrohale was smooth and gave off woody nuances.

What was incredibly interesting about the cigar was that flavors felt “clean” compared to other cigars. It’s bit hard to explain, but they were incredibly prominent and had form of freshness to them that stood out.

Second Third – Complexity Emerges

When I got into second third, texture changed and became little creamier and richer, which made the moment more enjoyable than before honestly. The flavors I was presented with were oak-like woodiness, leather, cacao, herbs and combination of raisins and honey-like sweetness.

I think combination of raisins and honey was one of most interesting parts and one that you don’t feel often. Most often you feel them more separately – having them combined was special. In background there were nuances of florality, white pepper, espresso, saltiness and taste that is most easily described as dark maple syrup. The retrohalation was as before smooth and had nuances of woodiness.

The Rebelde blue showed lighter complexity that was accessible yet engaging throughout.

Final Third – The Perfect Ending

That cigar showed complexity from beginning was no doubt and that it did so at end with no shock either. The texture was same as in second third, which was incredibly pleasant throughout.

The flavors I felt were hay, leather, anise cacao, floral, sweet herbs, fir needles, sweet oak-like flavor with hint of cedar and old-fashioned caramel. I think old-fashioned caramel is result of syrup flavor from earlier developing naturally. In background there were shades of earthiness, raisins, honey, brown sugar-like sweetness and roasted ground coffee beans. The retrohalation was smooth and had developed into dark woody shades.

That moment when cigar ends and you wish it wasn’t over yet – that’s what great cigars do. The Rebelde Blue delivered that feeling perfectly.

What Makes This Cigar of the Year Material

1. The Clean El Septimo Character

There is clean feel to this cigar that I have rarely if ever felt in another brand. It’s become hallmark of El Septimo cigars for me. The flavors are incredibly prominent and have form of freshness that stands out immediately. When you smoke cigars from other brands then come back to El Septimo, you notice this difference right away.

2. Complexity Without Intimidation

This is complex cigar with unique flavor profile that is almost difficult to explain in words. But here’s what makes it special – despite full body and complexity, it’s so smooth that cigar is well suited to beginner who is curious about full-bodied cigars. That’s incredibly rare combination.

Most full-bodied cigars with this much complexity can be intimidating or overwhelming. The Rebelde Blue manages to deliver power and complexity while remaining accessible and smooth. That’s mastery of blending right there.

3. Unique Flavor Profile

You will find everything from chocolatey nuances, espresso, leather, fruitiness, citrus and floral flavors. The combination of raisins and honey-like sweetness. The dark maple syrup notes. The old-fashioned caramel that develops. These aren’t flavors you find in typical cigars – they’re unique and memorable.

The floral and fruity combination with lighter shade of citrus that you can almost compare to luxurious perfume – when was last time you heard cigar described that way? That’s what makes this special.

4. Construction as Art

That pig’s tail on the foot isn’t just decoration – it’s statement. It shows attention to detail and artistry that went into making this cigar. First time I’ve seen it placed there, and it’s wonderful detail worth remembering. These are things that elevate cigar from great to exceptional.

5. Exceptional Value

If I compare price vs taste vs quality I think it is incredibly cheap compared to what you get honestly. For cigar scoring 98 points with this level of complexity, smoothness, and unique character – the value is outstanding. You’d expect to pay much more for this experience.

How It Compares to Other Top Cigars of 2025

This year we had some incredible cigars. The Eladio Diaz 70 Aniversario and Joya De Nicaragua Antano Dark Corojo both scored 97 points. The Stallone Palamino Connecticut hit 96 points. Drew Estate’s Blackened series impressed at 95 and 93 points. These are all exceptional cigars that deserve recognition.

But the Rebelde Blue did something different. It combined complexity with smoothness in way I haven’t experienced before. That clean El Septimo character throughout the entire smoke. The unique flavor combinations. The full body that remains accessible. The artistry in construction. When you add it all together, it becomes clear why this is Cigar of the Year.

The other cigars excelled in specific areas. The Rebelde Blue excelled in everything simultaneously.

The El Septimo Difference

After smoking El Septimo cigars throughout year, I’ve come to understand what makes them different. That clean feel isn’t marketing talk – it’s real characteristic you can taste. The flavors are incredibly prominent with form of freshness that stands out compared to other brands.

When Zaya Younan talks about purity of flavors in El Septimo blends, this is what he means. The Rebelde Blue showcases this perfectly. Every flavor is distinct and clear without muddiness or confusion. You can identify individual notes while appreciating how they work together.

This attention to quality and purity is what elevates El Septimo cigars. The Rebelde Blue is pinnacle of what they achieve.

My Personal Experience

From that first puff with its clean character through those 75 minutes of evolving complexity to final draw where I wished moment wasn’t over yet – it was complete experience.

The combination of raisins and honey in second third stuck with me. That dark maple syrup developing into old-fashioned caramel. The way texture became creamier and richer as cigar progressed. These are moments that make cigar smoking special for me.

And that pig’s tail on the foot – every time I see it, I’m reminded that cigars can be art. Someone took time to place that there perfectly. That’s care and attention that makes difference between good cigar and great one.
