Top 20 cigars of 2025

This year brought some truly remarkable smokes to the table. After countless hours spent with ash between my fingers and smoke swirling overhead, I’ve narrowed down twenty cigars that stood head and shoulders above the rest. These aren’t ranked in any particular order because honestly, they’re all champions in their own right. Each one deserves a spot in your humidor.

Premium cigars reward knowledge — the more you understand about construction, storage, flavor, and technique, the more you get from every cigar you smoke. If you want everything in one place, The Complete Cigar Guide: Everything You Need to Know About Premium Cigars covers the full journey from first cigar to serious collector.

1. El Septimo Rebelde Blue

If there’s a cigar that delivers everything you could ask for in one stick, it’s this one. The complexity here is something else entirely. From the moment you light up, you’re hit with layers of chocolate richness, deep espresso notes, supple leather, bright fruitiness, citrus zing, and delicate floral touches. What really sets this apart is the clean quality of the smoke. It’s refined in a way that feels almost rare among premium cigars. Every puff reveals something new, yet nothing fights for dominance. The balance is impeccable.

Score: 98

This cigar proves that when craftsmanship meets vision, you get something truly special. It’s smooth enough for a relaxed afternoon but complex enough to keep seasoned smokers engaged from first light to final inch.

2. Flor de Selva Classic Egoista

Sometimes a cigar surprises you with its presence. This short smoke with a ring gauge of 56 felt almost weightless in my palm—like a feather—yet it conveys power. The white paper band gives off wedding cigar vibes or the feel of a luxurious everyday smoke. That combination of substantial presence and delicate band creates something almost magical.

This Honduran puro delivers an incredibly soft and airy cold draw with hay and oats. Once lit, you’re greeted with a creamy, thick, rich texture—the kind that fills your taste buds with joy through pure smoothness. Pepper, oak and cedar woodiness, roasted nuts, florality, espresso, and leather dominate. Backing them up are dried fruits, herbs, dark chocolate, and saltiness. White pepper and wood emerge on the retrohale with a light tickle.

Put your full focus on this cigar and it rewards you. The incredible balance between flavors deserves attention. When you reach the nub, there’s a surprising shift. The texture becomes creamy and buttery simultaneously, bringing cedar wood, licorice, ground dark roasted coffee beans, dried herbs, hay, and a sweetness reminiscent of honey and vanilla sugar.

The fifty-minute smoking time from such a short format is impressive—you don’t need puffs every sixty seconds to keep it alive. The medium body suits both beginners and experienced smokers. Considering the average price of around eleven to twelve dollars, this represents exceptional value. It’s low-priced compared to what you receive in return.

3. Hemmy’s Linea Secreta Robusto

This cigar carries a sense of mystery that’s fitting for its name—Linea Secreta, the secret line. When I held it for the first time, I got the impression it was made to preserve something special, like the secrets of a medieval queen. Stories that would amaze historians but whose truth would never be fully revealed. The whole blend is a secret that Hemmy chose not to disclose.

The construction is incredibly firm with an oily feeling to it. The wrapper scent alone is remarkable enough to pause and appreciate before lighting. Once lit, you’re greeted with wonderful complexity that remains incredibly well balanced throughout. It was pure joy to smoke.

The flavors start fruity and sweet, maintaining that character through most of the cigar before finishing with earthier notes in the final third. The medium body suits most aficionados, and when you compare price versus taste versus quality, you’re getting a lot of cigar for your money. This is premium smoking without the premium price tag.

4. El Septimo Da Vinci Lancero

Leonardo Da Vinci created the Mona Lisa. El Septimo created Da Vinci. The parallel isn’t accidental. This lancero format delivers an experience that unfolds in four distinct acts, which is surprisingly rare for any cigar, let alone one at this price point.

Right from the cold draw, you get honey-like sweetness mingling with hay and leather, but then comes the unexpected star: a grape-like fruitiness that lifts everything else. As you progress, you’ll find nutmeg dancing with anise, a touch of saltiness, white pepper heat, and then coconut. Yes, coconut. It’s subtle at first, almost like you imagined it, but then it develops into something more pronounced, reminiscent of coconut oil. This flavor doesn’t show up often in cigars, which makes it all the more memorable.

The retrohale stays smooth throughout, and the creaminess never lets up. Toward the end, you get dried herbs, pistachio and cashew nuttiness, minerals, and even a breadiness like stone-oven baked bread. The medium body makes it approachable for most enthusiasts, and honestly, given what this cigar delivers, the price feels like a steal.

5. Eladio Diaz 70 Aniversario

Complexity meets anniversary celebration in this remarkable smoke. The cigar unfolds in four distinct parts, each bringing its own character to the table. The medium body makes it friendly for most smokers, but don’t mistake that for simplicity. There’s depth here.

What really stands out is the value proposition. Many cigars at twice this price don’t deliver the same experience. You’re getting premium quality at a surprisingly accessible price point. The flavors are refined, the construction is flawless, and the smoking time gives you plenty of opportunity to appreciate what’s happening in your hand.

6. Vegas de Santiago D8 Perla

Don’t let the small size fool you. This little powerhouse packs more flavor than many larger formats manage to deliver. Being able to divide a cigar this size into two distinct parts is almost unheard of, yet this one pulls it off beautifully.

The complexity is impressive, especially given the formato. You can smoke it slowly and deliberately, letting each flavor develop fully. For the money, this represents exceptional value—you’re getting a premium experience in a compact package. Sometimes the best things come in small packages, and this perla proves it.

7. Perdomo 20th Anniversary Maduro Robusto

Chocolate lovers, pay attention. This maduro delivers chocolate flavors in abundance, but with enough complexity to keep things interesting. The body sits at medium bordering on full, yet it remains approachable even if you haven’t smoked extensively.

The balance here is what impresses most. Nothing overpowers, nothing hides. Each flavor gets its moment while contributing to the whole. Construction is solid, the draw is reliable, and the price makes it an easy recommendation. I could easily see paying more for this experience and still feeling satisfied.

8. El Septimo 20th Anniversary

The white band wrapped around this cigar conveys power. You immediately sense this was made for life’s most special occasions—moments to celebrate, enjoy, and remember. The tobacco has been aged between seven and ten years, which means you’re essentially looking back in time when you hold it.

My expectations were sky-high when I lit this, and somehow it exceeded them. The texture is incredibly smooth and creamy, with citrus flavors that take up serious space on your palate—specifically lemon notes that stand out uniquely. You’ll also find fruitiness, hay combined with leather, and an indescribable sweetness reminiscent of vanilla sugar mixed with honey. Background notes of cashew nuttiness and nougat chocolate add depth.

What’s remarkable is the fruity quality in the retrohale—I’ve probably never experienced fruitiness there before. As you progress, citrus remains dominant alongside leather, nougat chocolate, espresso, citrus peel, vanilla bean, woodiness, saltiness, and even orange-like fruit notes. The third section brings increased fruitiness with hints of peach peel, florality, salted roasted nuts, chocolate variations, espresso with syrup-like sweetness, and strangely, something reminiscent of parma ham.

The ninety-minute smoking time gives you plenty of opportunity to explore. The body sits at medium bordering on full, making it accessible to curious smokers who haven’t fully embraced full-bodied cigars yet. The price sits right where it should for this level of quality.

9. Princip Accomplice Classic Robusto

This cigar shocked me. Finding this level of flavor and complexity at this price point feels almost impossible, yet here it is. The Princip Accomplice delivers what premium cigars promise but at a fraction of the cost.

The construction is tight, the burn is even, and the flavors evolve throughout the smoke. It’s the kind of cigar that makes you stop and reconsider your assumptions about what determines quality. Sometimes a smaller brand hits it out of the park, and Princip definitely did that here.

10. Valentino Siesto Sungrown Robusto

This is what impressive looks like. While the Valentino Siesto sits at a slightly higher price point than some others on this list, it outperforms many cigars at double the cost. The flavors achieve an incredible balance that few cigars manage.

The construction alone deserves recognition—it’s essentially flawless. Every draw is consistent, the burn line stays true, and the ash holds well. When construction, flavor, and value align this perfectly, you’ve found something special. The last third brings a wonderful complexity that shows thoughtful blending and careful aging.

11. Camacho Ecuador Robusto

The flavors are absolutely incredible, but what truly shocked me was the smoking time. I genuinely thought someone was pulling my leg when I checked the clock. Eighty minutes. An 80-minute robusto. I’ve never experienced anything like it before or since.

Beyond the impressive duration, this cigar smokes slowly by nature. You don’t have to work to keep it lit, and it never gets hot or harsh. The draw is perfect—not too loose, not too tight. This is the kind of cigar that makes you rethink what’s possible in a robusto format.

12. Tatuaje Cabaiguan No.52 Rothschild

The texture and flavors here are nothing short of incredible. Right from the first third, you’re greeted with pronounced sweetness, hay, floral notes, dark berries, and cedar wood. In the background, sweet licorice and cherry candy flavors add an unexpected but welcome dimension.

This rothschild format delivers a complete experience without feeling rushed. The complexity unfolds naturally, revealing new layers as you progress through the smoke. Given what it offers, the price feels like a bargain. This is premium quality without the premium price tag.

13. EP Carrillo Allegiance Confidant

This cigar shows solid balance throughout, with the last third bringing standout flavors that add a wonderful dynamic twist. The body sits at medium edging toward full, yet remains approachable enough for less experienced smokers.

When it comes to price versus taste and quality, this offers impressive value, delivering more than you’d expect for what you pay. The complexity develops beautifully as you progress through each third, with certain flavors emerging that you rarely encounter in other cigars.

14. Gurkha Seduction Robusto

The balance here is excellent, with a distinctive citrus note that really shines in the second third. The body sits between medium and full, making it better suited for the more seasoned aficionado. You can smoke this one incredibly slowly without any issues.

What really impressed me was the value proposition. When you weigh price against flavor and quality, you get a lot of cigar for the money. I’d consider paying more to smoke it again. The unique citrus character sets it apart from most cigars in this category.

15. Rebellion Cigars 5 O’Clock Somewhere

The fruitiness here really sets this cigar apart—it’s almost like enjoying a luxurious summer fruit salad in smoke form. The profile leans toward lighter complexity, with a natural division into two distinct phases. This works equally well as an everyday smoke or as something special when you want to treat yourself.

The value proposition is strong. You’re getting quality that exceeds the price tag. The medium body and approachable flavor profile make it versatile enough for various occasions and experience levels.

16. Rebellion Ace of Spades Robusto

Smooth and soft—that’s the perfect description for smokers curious about full body who haven’t quite developed their palate for it yet. The construction is solid without any unevenness or soft parts, with a slightly oily feel.

The texture starts incredibly nice, creamy and buttery simultaneously. The first flavor that hits is a sweetness reminiscent of old-fashioned toffee caramel—not too sweet or prominent. Following that are hay, roasted nuts with lighter cashew shades, licorice, and leather. Background notes include lighter general fruitiness and citrus-like acidity.

What makes this special is the soft complexity that emerges. The texture transitions from buttery and creamy to just creamy and rich. Previous caramel sweetness gets replaced by honey-like sweetness alongside hay, cashew nuts, licorice, and leather. You’ll find fruitiness with peach peel notes and cream with vanilla sugar in the background.

The nub delivers a surprise—all previous flavors almost disappear, leaving only chocolate, grass, and hay. It’s an incredibly lovely finish. The sixty-minute smoking time, medium body bordering on full, and complexity between flavors mean you never get bored. The price feels a bit low for what you receive.

17. Stallone Zaino Robusto

If you appreciate full-bodied cigars with rich chocolate nuances and genuine complexity, the Zaino deserves your attention. The smoking time alone is shocking—ninety minutes from a classic robusto format is practically unheard of. You don’t often sit with a robusto for an hour and a half.

The name Zaino refers to the color of nearly black horses, which fits the dark, rich character of this smoke. From the cold draw onward, you’re getting dark chocolate, hay, oats, dark berries, cacao, and sweet earthiness. The texture stays creamy with hints of butteriness throughout.

What makes the extended smoking time even better is that you don’t need frequent puffs to keep it lit. This reduces the risk of overheating and bitterness. The body is full, making it better suited for experienced aficionados, but the balance and quality make it accessible. For the price, this represents exceptional value.

18. PDR AFR-75 Cosecha Especial Shade Grown Robusto

Surprisingly smooth with a fresh flavor profile that caught me completely off guard. There’s lovely complexity between the thirds, and the flavors maintain incredible balance throughout. Each note feels refined and purposeful, shifting beautifully as you progress.

You’ll encounter a wonderful fruitiness reminiscent of fruit salad, with hints of honeydew melon and pear, along with hay, cedar wood, and pistachio nuts. The texture carries a creamy quality with buttery hints that make it incredibly pleasant to smoke. The mild body makes it approachable for just about any aficionado.

Considering taste, quality, and price, this delivers exceptional value. I’d gladly pay more for the experience. It’s proof that PDR knows how to craft a shade-grown wrapper that doesn’t sacrifice complexity for smoothness.

19. Drew Estate Blackened S84 Shade to Black Toro

This Connecticut might earn skeptical looks with its high rating, but smoke it yourself and you’ll understand. The bright raspberry-like acidity combined with sweet fruit tones creates something truly unique. Coffee and herbal notes add refinement and depth.

I’ve compared this against countless Connecticut cigars in the same price range and many at double the cost. Very few deliver this level of quality. The burn is beautiful when smoked slowly, and the draw hits that sweet spot of resistance. It’s proof that Connecticut wrappers can deliver complexity and character when handled by skilled blenders.

20. Drew Estate Blackened M81 Maduro Toro

The Blackened M81 brings a darker, bolder character compared to its Connecticut brother. This maduro-wrapped toro is part of the collaboration between Drew Estate and Metallica’s Blackened Whiskey, and it delivers a full-bodied experience that lives up to the heavy metal heritage.

Where the S84 Shade to Black brings bright fruit and coffee, the M81 Maduro takes you in a completely different direction. Expect rich, earthy flavors with dark chocolate, espresso, leather, and a pronounced spiciness that builds throughout the smoke. The maduro wrapper adds sweetness that balances the fuller body beautifully.

The construction matches what you’d expect from Drew Estate—flawless. The draw is consistent, the burn stays even, and the ash holds remarkably well. This is a cigar that demands your full attention, rewarding you with layers of complexity that develop as you progress through each third.

The medium to full body makes this better suited for experienced smokers who appreciate bolder profiles. If you’ve tried the S84 and loved it, the M81 offers a completely different but equally impressive experience from the Blackened series. Together, these two cigars show the range Drew Estate can achieve when they push boundaries.

Final Thoughts

These twenty cigars represent different styles, price points, and experiences, but they all share one thing: exceptional quality. Whether you’re looking for complexity, value, unique flavors, or just a reliably excellent smoke, you’ll find something here worth trying.

The cigar world is vast, and new blends appear constantly, but these stood out this year for good reason. Each one brings something special to the table. Some surprised with unexpected flavors, others impressed with construction and consistency, and a few simply delivered experiences that exceeded all expectations.

Take your time with these. Each deserves your full attention and a quiet moment to appreciate what the blender created. That’s what this lifestyle is about—not just smoking, but truly experiencing each cigar for what it is.
