Small in size but big in taste.
Construction
Looking at the cigar was a joy in itself. The band that wrapped around the cigar gave a relaxed impression while the text MF in the older style gave an elegant impression. The orange band at the foot raised the feeling of relaxation even more and harmonized incredibly well with the upper band. The band in the middle of the cigar gave an even stronger impression. The golden band combined with the rest gave me the feeling that there was something big hiding behind them. It felt a bit like a movie where you find a treasure chest and have to open it to see a treasure long forgotten. I wanted to order several just to have them in my humidor as a decoration to create the same feeling. Incredibly nicely done, I think. I removed the orange band and ran my fingers over the cigar. The tobacco was evenly distributed with no soft or hard parts that could indicate an uneven glow or that it would be plugged and indicate a hard draw. The oiliness just screamed quality right through. It was neither too much nor too little. I longed to roast the cigar.
Wrapper: Nicaragua – Binder: Nicaragua – Filler: Nicaragua
Taste
From the moment I picked up the cigar, I just longed to start smoking! I started my classic process. The scent I smelled on the wrapper was sweet hay and light fruitiness while the filler had a light fruitiness and cedar.I picked up the puncher and felt it was almost time to start roasting the cigar. I took a few cold drags and felt flavor nuances that were fruity and cedar wood.
1/2 First half
The moment I longed for was finally here, I roasted the My Father Le Bijou 1922 cigar extra slowly and just waited to take my first puffs. The texture that met me was medium Creamy with a combination of a lot of nice flavors. The dominant flavors that met my taste buds were sweet fruitiness, a flavor that made me think of milk chocolate, and a combination of oak and cedar that balanced out the sweetness. There was a slight saltiness in the background. I think the salt was nice against the other flavors. As I approached the middle, small shades of citrus slowly came into the background. The citrus didn’t remind of any particular citrus fruit, it was more the general one.The retrohal tickled the nose a bit and gave nuances of a combination of black and white pepper.
2/2 What a great cigar
Second half of My Father Le Bijou 1922 petit robusto was at least as good if not better than before. The fruitiness became more dominant and had a sweetness reminiscent of the sweetness of honeydew melon. Not the taste of melon, but the sweetness. The sweetness was balanced out by nuances of oak/cedar and not far behind in the background were flavors of dark chocolate, espresso and citrus. The citrus became a little more prominent than before. The saltiness I felt before was still there. In some puffs, not in every one I thought I felt a bit of the classic general tobacco taste. The retrohale became a bit smoother and gave shades of black pepper and hickory.
After taste
The aftertaste was walnut and had a dry texture.
Body
The cigar had a medium/full body. I liked the cigar but it’s not a cigar I think you should smoke if you’re just starting your cigar journey but definitely worth a try for the seasoned smoker.
Smoke time
It took about 40 minutes to smoke the cigar.
Would I smoke the cigar again? No doubt and I will. Then I also want some in the humidor. How it was presented with the ribbons, all the flavors. An absolutely incredible cigar, well thought out from start to finish, I think.
