Perdomo BBA Sungrown robusto

Pedromo BBA Sungrown robusto

When I lit the cigar, I was prepared for some complexity but not for how well-balanced the flavors were.

Construction

My expectations were high when I picked up the Perdomo BBA sungrown Robuston in my hand. The band that wrapped around the cigar was incredibly beautiful and gave a luxurious feel. When I ran my fingers over the cigar, it felt firmly rolled with no soft parts. There were no major veins felt that would interfere with the glow. Everything was simply perfect. The wrapper that wrapped around the cigar was semi-matte.

Taste

Given that the wrapper on the Perdomo BBA Sungrown robusto was aged for a few months in bourbon barrels, I expected a lot from the cigar. One thing that really stood out was the smell. When I smelled it, I almost didn’t want to light the cigar for a while and keep smelling it. One of the best scents I’ve ever smelled on a cigar. I can’t explain it in any other way than that the scent was thick and reminded me of a good balanced citrus perfume with light floweriness. After the scent, my expectations were incredibly high. After cutting the cigar with the punch cutter, I took a few puffs before lighting the cigar and was met with a taste of sweet hay. The cigar started off in an incredibly good way.

First third of Pedromo BBA Sungrown robusto. Let’s see what the cigar has to offer

Perdomo BBA Sungrown robusto

I began to slowly roast the cigar with high hopes for what it would bring given the aroma and cold draw earlier. I took a few puffs and almost had to stop myself from smoking too fast. The first thing I encountered was a pleasant creamy and slightly oily texture. The first taste that came to mind and it shocked me, was a taste that reminded me of citrus. It is not often that citrus comes in as the first taste note, but now it was there among the first flavors. There were flavors in a combination of fruitiness, flora and a light vanilla sugar like sweetness that balanced with each other. In the background I could find some oak and a nuttiness that balanced the sweet flavors in an incredibly good way. The retrohalation was smooth and gave a slight hint of black pepper. I was incredibly happy that the cigar held the same level of flavors as it did before roasting. The balance between the flavors was incredibly good and I was filled with joy.

Second third

In the second third the flavors on the cigar changed a bit and the cigar showed it’s complexity. The flavors kept the same track but were mixed a little more and gave new nuances to existing flavors while shifting which flavor was more dominant. The creamy texture receded a bit and gave more room to the oiliness. The flavors that emerged were oaky with an undertone of vanilla like flavor. The fruitiness from before was still there but not as prominent, it receded a little and left more room for the floral taste that came forward more. There was a nuttiness in the background reminiscent of sweet almonds. Behind the almond flavor was a hint of dark chocolate that teased the taste buds. The retrohalation was smooth and gave a taste in a combination of white and black pepper.

Last third. Let’s see what the final offers.

The oily texture was now dominant and the creaminess receded a bit. The flavors that now emerged were a combination of oak, cedar and florals. The flora changed a lot and was thick in taste. The Flora flavor was incredibly good but hard to explain, the closest I can come is that it reminded me of a combination of tulips and roses. There was a hint of hay, a light fruitiness and a slight hint of citrus in the background. As i got close to the end of the cigar, light flavors of sweet licorice and dark chocolate came in, ending the moment with the cigar in a good way. The retrohalation tickled the nose a little and gave a light taste of white pepper.

After taste

The after taste was short and the classic walnut taste.

Body

The Perdomo BBA Sungrown robusto had a body that was on the upper edge of medium.

Smoke time

I enjoyed the cigar for 50 minutes before it was time to put it down.

Conclusion and rating

48 out of 50. The flavors were easy to find and the cigar was overall quite lightly smoked. The body, which was on the upper edge of medium, makes it a good fit for the slightly more experienced smoker if you want to fully appreciate the cigar. Worth considering is that it is quite unforgiving when you happen to smoke a little too quickly.

My high expectations from the scent at the beginning were met when I smoked the cigar. An incredibly good balance between the flavors. A cigar I look forward to enjoying again.
