I have almost never in my life spoken to a person who has this energy and pace that Hemmy has. If you haven’t spoken to him, it’s almost impossible to understand. The easiest way I can explain it is, Imagine you’re at a party, the music playing is depressing, slow and everyone around is about to fall asleep, out of nowhere a turbo polka comes up from an orchestra and livens it up with its tempo and happy tones. No one sits still anymore and the party is in full swing.
The story of Hemmys cigars
”My father, who is from Cuba, moved to Germany in the late 70s to study at university where he met my mother. After his studies, my father chose to move back to Cuba. My mother followed her heart and moved with him, even though my mother’s parents were strictly against her moving from Germany. In 1983, a year after I was born, my mother chose to move back to Germany while my father stayed Cuba. My father visited us about once a year and I knew him for the first few years as an uncle and not as a father”
“During his time In cuba, he became successful in the cigar Industry, for example, he build up the 5th Avenue Products togheter with Heinrich Villiger and later on he became the vice president of Habanos SA. So he was one of the most influential Person in the cigar world”
Hemmy’s training in the art of cigars. His knowledge is something that only passion can give.

“I don’t know why, but already in primary school I knew that cigars were my future. Something attracted me and it was my dream. My education began with training at Villiger Cigars first Avenue and then my continued education in England at Hunter and Frankau where I worked in various stores for a period of 3 months. For example I worked for Davidoff of London. After my time in London, I worked at the H.Upmann factory in Cuba for a year. You could say I learned 24/7, even in my free time in Cuba my colleagues taught me about everything from tobacco to rolling cigars. When I came home to Germany, I worked in a famous store but felt that something was missing”
Hemmys Cigars is founded

“In 2008, I chose to invest and open my own store but felt that I wanted to pursue a dream. I wanted to create my own blend. I had good contacts and chose a factory in the Dominican Republic. In 2015, I started my hunt for the perfect blend and it took 2 years with aprox 10 trips. In 2017, I can proudly say that my blend was finished and in 2019 my first delivery of Hemmys cigars arrived in Germany. I have had the opportunity to work with distributers but have turned it down. Either they wanted to take too much in commission or my gut feeling said no. A collaboration has to feel right and if it doesn’t, it’s not worth the effort. The idea is to have a long time collaboration for this the circumstances must feel right from the beginning”

You can say a lot about Hemmy, but his energy and pace are difficult to match. What is especially interesting is that many people choose to find the right drink to pair their cigars with, well not Hemmy. He went a step further and chose to create the perfect rum for the cigars instead.

A blend of Caribbean specialty rums up to 10 years old, enhanced with exciting flavors.
To the fine nut and orange notes in the foreground, pair chocolate and a little caramel in the finish.
The perfect companion to the Hemmys cigars.
If you are passing through Berlin, want to sit in a cigar lounge with a relaxed atmosphere and meet an energetic person with world-class cigars, then Hemmys cigars is worth a visit.

Hemmy it was a great honor to hear and share your story. Your pace is difficult to keep up with and it is something more people should have. A go that gets things moving and not just an eternally planned one like many in the world do.
