A great cigar doesn’t just fit the moment—it defines it. Whether you’re oceanside with your toes in the sand or gazing over mountain peaks with bourbon in hand, the right cigar can elevate the entire getaway. At VDG-cigars, we don’t believe in one-size-fits-all. We believe in cigars that fit you-and where you’re headed.
Cigars are more than taste-they’re time, reflection, and connection. Whether you’re unwinding alone or sharing a moment with someone, the right cigar is the one that meets you exactly where you are.
Forget rules. Forget checklists. On vacation, you don’t follow a routine-you follow your instinct. Your cigar should too.
Refill your humidor
Filling the humidor is usually pretty obvious, but during the holidays I fill it up a little extra. The time outdoors from morning to evening provides more opportunities than during a regular workday. Opening the lid and seeing an empty box is not something you want to stress about. Fill it up, relax and enjoy your holiday. Stock up extra.
When I get to the end of our planet, I’ll stop trying new cigars.
In the daily routine it is easy to get stuck in the safe and familiar. I understand you, you don’t want to ruin your free time with a cigar you don’t like, but how are you supposed to explore and find your new favorite? Vacation is a perfect opportunity, even if you smoke one that your taste buds don’t like in the afternoon, maybe a hit will come in the evening or the next day. Take the chance to explore something new, you never know what is waiting around the corner 🙂

Mix the choice of body
Even if you prefer mild, medium or full body, it can be nice to have variety.
If you prefer a full body and only smoke them on a regular basis, sometimes it can be nice to have a little variety when your taste buds are not at their peak and you are tired because yesterday was too late, maybe you smoke cigars with a mild or medium body then it can be a little nice with a heavier body after a slightly heavier barbecue dinner and your taste buds want a little more robust flavors that come through. Consider having most of your cigars in the preferred body but have a few milder/fuller ones ready in case the craving strikes. You will not regret it once the craving is there.
Enjoy the mix of complex and less complex cigars
Just as it can be nice to have a variety of mild and full-bodied cigars, a variety of complex and non-complex cigars can be a hit. An evening with a complex cigar that tickles the taste buds can be a lovely end to the day, while a cigar with less complexity while mowing the lawn in the sun can be a golden moment. If you fill your humidor with variety, then you are ready for whatever you feel like during the day’s adventures.
Have some extra cigars for your quests
During the holidays it is popular for many people to smoke cigars occasionally even if they don’t usually do so. Imagine that you invite friends over for dinner, the chance is given for a cigar, it is rare that it is refused even by the non-smoker. If you have filled the cigar with some cheaper good cigars, you don’t need to offer your well-stored expensive grips if they don’t have their own. There are an incredible number of good cheap cigars with high quality. Whatever you offer, your guests will appreciate it and remember the moment as a dinner with a golden edge.
Most importantly, enjoy and try to take the day as it comes.
