That cigar took me by surprise. Small but powerful. I hadn’t expected such complexity from My Father blue petit robusto given its size, but it took me by surprise and showed me more complexity than many other larger cigars.
Construction of My Father Blue Petit Robusto
My Father Blue Petit Robusto was box pressed and impressively constructed. Many times when you hold a box pressed cigar one side tends to have a bit softer rounded edges while the other side is a bit sharper, the Blue Petit Robusto was impressively smooth and you couldn’t see or feel any difference. The cigar was incredibly firm, you couldn’t feel any softer or harder parts or feel any larger veins. It had a slightly oily feel to it.
Band impression
I had mixed feelings when I looked at the cigar. While it felt a bit like a casual, luxurious everyday cigar, I got the feeling that My Father Blue was made for celebrating a newborn baby.
When you look closely at the band, the details are amazing, every corner has a story it wants to tell.
Size of My Father Blue Petit Robusto
The cigar is a Petit robusto with a ring gauge of 50 (approximately 20mm) and a length of 4,5 inches (approximately 114mm).
Blend
My Father blue petit robusto had a blend that consisted of a CT Broadleaf Rosado wrapper, Honduran binder and Honduran fillers.
Scent and cold draw
The aroma I felt from the wrapper was hay with a fainter chocolatey nuance while the filler gave off lighter aromas of hay and nuttiness. The flavors from the cold draft were maltiness and oats.
1/3 Lets light upp the My Father blue Petit robusto
After I had toasted the small box pressed cigar I was greeted with a lighter creamy texture. Not the mouth filling thick texture you expect from a full bodied cigar. The flavors My Father blue showed at the beginning were hay, pepperiness, general wood flavors and an old fashioned caramel like sweetness. The sweetness is a bit hard to explain in words, you could say it was similar to burnt cooled hard sugar. In the background there were flavors of orange peel, anise and saltiness. The retrohalation tickled my nose slightly and the nuances I felt were woodiness and white pepper.
2/3 Lets enjoy the cigars complexity
When I got into the second third of the My Father blue cigar, it showed a whole new side. The texture became creamier and the dominant flavors that emerged were Woodiness, nutty nuances, anise, saltiness, earthiness, hay and a chocolaty mix that reminded me of a mixture of cacao and regular chocolate. In the background of the cigar, I felt flavors of ground coffee beans, general sweetness and florality. The retrohalation became a little smoother and I felt general woody nuances.
3/3 Lets se how the My Father cigar finishes
It was when I got into the last third of My Father blue petit robusto that the full body showed itself. The texture was creamy but at the same time quite rough on the palette. The dominant flavors I felt were dark woodiness, dark roasted coffee beans, herbs, earthiness and cacao in combination with dark chocolate. In the background there were flavors of roasted nuts, classic tobacco and hay. The retrohalation tickled my nose in the same way as in the first third of the cigar and the nuances I felt were dark woodiness.
After taste
The aftertaste of My Father Blue was dark woodiness and generally nutty. I have to admit it was quite a nice aftertaste and it rounded off the cigar in a lovely way.
Draw
The draw of My Father blue petit robusto was a little tighter than many other box pressed cigars. Not too tight that it would cause irritation, but a little tighter than what you usually feel.
Burn quality of the cigar
The glow line was even from start to finish and didn’t have to be corrected.
Body
The My Father blue had a full body bordering on medium.
Price of the cigar
The average price for My Father Blue Petit robusto is 10-12 dollars for a cigar.
Conclusion
My Father blue petit robusto is a small box pressed cigar that surprised with its complexity. The flavors are well balanced and the body is full. The cigar is well suited for slightly more experienced cigar smokers who are looking for a slightly smaller cigar. If I compare price vs taste vs quality I think you get a lot of cigar for the money.
